Cool Culture Fair 2008 a Success!

On February 25, 2008, hundreds of educators, parents, museum representatives, and cultural artists gathered at the newly-opened Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for Cool Culture Fair 2008 - Our Histories, Our Stories, Our Art!

Each year, the Cool Culture Fair brings together New York City’s finest cultural institutions all in one place. The event is an opportunity for families and staff – Cultural Liaisons - from Cool Culture’s participating centers to learn all that these institutions have to offer.  For the first time in the Fair’s history, this year our participants also heard from museum founders and directors, artists, and arts educators on the connections between art, culture, and the community. The event also featured hands-on arts and cultural sessions with presenters from Weeksville Heritage Center and the Chinese Theatre Works company.

Culture Fair 2008 tablesCool Culture is pleased to announce the Fair was the largest in our organization’s history, with close to 400 participants this year!

We are deeply grateful to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for donating the use of the Uris Center for Education. Many thanks to Penguin Group for donating books for the event, Soutine Bakery and Whole Foods Market for providing food and beverage, and MetroPlus for providing tote bags.

Join us in making culture accessible. Thousands of low-income children and families are unable to enjoy New York City’s art museums, botanical gardens and zoos because they cannot afford the entry fees.  You can help.  Make a contribution and help place the arts within reach of all New Yorkers.
